To keep things interesting we recently took the boys to Story Time at our local library. While the other 12-18 monthers sat quietly with their parents, our boys were the "stars of the show." They crawled, banged, snatched books, and made plenty of noise. Bob and I agreed that their behavior was typical for their age and so went along with it. We all had a good time doing sign language, making animal noises and playing with puppets together.
Afterward they chewed on giant puzzles to their hearts content. They were happy doing new things and dad and I were happy to entertain them for free using local resources.
