CREATE // HOLIDAY BANNER

It's not every day that I find the time to be crafty. Three babies in house means good ideas come and go a lot.

That's why I was stoked to get some quiet time yesterday to catch up on a movie and be creative ALL BY MYSELF.

It was exciting for sure, but even more exciting is the fact that this craft idea came from one place: inside my head! Not the internet, Facebook, Pinterest. I'm sure it exists somewhere but as far as I'm concerned this is 100% original.

Without further ado here are the step-by-steps to make a beautiful {and very inexpensive} Holiday banner.

What you need:

Magazines
Scissors
Sharpie
Clothes Pins
Jute or Twine
2 Nails
Hammer
Tape Measure

  •  Find a page in your magazine you'd like to use for a letter.
  • Rip it out.
  • Draw the letter outline on the back of the page so you don't see the lines when you're done.*
  • Cut around your outline.
  • Repeat this process until you've spelled your entire word.

I chose "Thankful" for Thanksgiving, but there are plenty of options for the Holidays such as "Gratitude", "Cherish",  "Family"... whatever suits you!

*You might want to draw on the front when you're drawing letters that don't look the same forward as they do backward.

Also, if you can't freehand well just find a letter online that you like and zoom in until it's big enough to trace on the computer screen!

I tried to use sections of pages with little to no word presence.

Tie some jute (or twine) around your two small nails and place them in the wall at the same height.

To do this I used a measuring tape but if you don't have one simply hold up a magazine (or your arm) for approximate visual measure. Because the banner won't be hanging straight there's a little wiggle room. {phew}

The finished product is a beautiful rustic-looking addition to any Holiday display.

Variations:

Instead of magazines use: newspaper, old photos, calendar pages, cardstock (decorate with glitter, feathers, sand, sticks, etc.)

Instead of twine use: parachute cord, fishing line, dental floss, ribbon, anything you can string-up!

Instead of outlining letters on the back (where no one can see) try using a marker and creating a bold outlined effect!

Instead of nails use: hardware knobs/pulls, hooks, thumb tacks (there are some super cute ones out there!)

Instead of clothes pins use: a sewing machine, hot glue, duct tape, paper clips

As you can see the possibilities are endless!

Go crazy & Have fun!
