Have you seen my babies?

I can't seem to find them anywhere... my babies, that is.
Bob and I have been on the fence about cutting the twins' hair for a while now.
okay mostly I was on the fence, Bob seemed fine with the idea.

Long story short: we finally did it.
First I cut their hair. Bob was at work.
I got the urge and went with it.

before

after + peanut butter armpits

I told myself I would never do this, but I saved the first clippings in a bag.

I still remember being 10-ish years old and finding
my friend Jessie's first hair clippings that her mom had saved,
and teasing her.
Jess, if you're reading this, I am so sorry!

One example, among many, of the countless times since becoming a parent that I said "I'll never..." and then did it."

Anyway, they looked pretty cute.
Without any styling product they were younger and cuter versions
of Harry and Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber,
but with the right hair paste they looked like sophisticated gentlemen. Wah!
Where did my long-haired babies go? What did I do?

With two snips of the scissors I cut away their baby-like innocence.
They started a new chapter of their life.
True, a haircut doesn't change their behavior, make them geniouses,
or alter my love for them, but it does help me see them in a different way.

Lucky for them daddy swooped in with the clippers and cleaned up the mess I'd made.
Don't worry he's laughing, hysterically! There are no pictures of Dayr during this step, as he was crying (also hysterically).

They look older now, but in a good way.
they went from being my sweet, innocent sons
to two very kind, adult-like gentlemen.
With their locks out of the way I can see better into their souls.

I can't wait to see what else unfolds as we let go of some of the old and welcome in more new.

Tay, Day

Lookin' good boys, mommy loves you.

  1. Their haircuts look great! Long hair can be cute on boys, but I just love a nice short cut. Good job mama!

  2. What great faces those boys have!
When I got the boy's hair cut for the first time, I cried.
Taylor, not so much, 'cause she was already 3 before we got a haircut.
But Ryland, he was just over a year. And I lost it! It's such a huge step!
